Mary P. Arndt, 99, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Monday, February 19, 2024 at Lexington Manor in Port Charlotte. Mary was born on February 4, 1925 in Reed City, Michigan. She was the 6th of 7 children of John Hoogerhyde and Bessie Leusby Hoogerhyde. She married Robert A. Arndt on 7-31-1947 in Birmingham, Michigan and remained his faithful wife and companion until his death on June 13, 1999.
Mary and her husband Bob owned and operated an upholstery business in Roseville, Michigan for more than 45 years before moving to Florida. Both were active in their church, the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Deep Creek, Florida. For all her adult life, Mary was an active, outgoing person who enjoyed bowling at least 3 times a week until her mid 80’s. She also loved boating, fishing, camping and all outdoor activities. Mary was an accomplished artist who studied at the Detroit Institute of Arts and her paintings were exhibited in Punta Gorda, Florida at various times. Mary was a loved and respected mother and grandmother who will be sorely missed. She was a good and faithful friend to many whose lives were touched by Bob and Mary in positive ways over the course of their lives. Hers was a long and fruitful life well lived.
Mary is survived by one brother, Wesley Hoogerhyde, of Indiana; her two children, Debra Arndt Johnson and Steven (Elizabeth) Arndt; three grandchildren, Sara Nisenfeld, Adam Arndt and Ashley Arndt Hirschelman; and seven great-grandhildren, Christian and Hailey Phipps, Michael Chandler, Liam and Lula Arndt and Kensie and Camden Hirshelman.
