Mary Ellen Waterworth, 96, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 26, 2014 in Port Charlotte.
Mary was born August 9, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, Mary moved with her husband William from Fort Thomas, Kentucky where they resided until moving to Bradenton, Florida in 1951. Mary was very active in the Bradenton community’s local churches, as a Pink Lady volunteer at Bradenton’s Blake Memorial Hospital, and as a member of the Bradenton Country Club for 55 years, were she participated regularly as a Tournament Bridge Player and Women’s Club Golf Tournaments participant, winning the Women’s Club Golf Championship five times. Mary moved to Port Charlotte to be closer to her growing family in 2006.
She is survived by her beloved sons, William L. Waterworth III, Richard Waterworth, Sr., and John T. Waterworth; grandchildren, Richard Waterworth, Jr. and John A. Waterworth, Catherine Henry, Jennifer Casanta, Jana McAndrew, and Patty Morgan, and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William L. Waterworth, Jr., and a grandson, David A. Waterworth.
A Memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. this Monday, June 30, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel. A private committal will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary’s name are suggested to Tidewell Hospice, Inc.
