Mavis was born December 7, 1920 in Jamaica, West Indies. Before moving to Florida, Mavis lived in London, Canada and New York before moving to Port Charlotte in 1997 from Irvington, New Jersey. She was a seamstress for many years before becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a woman who was always on the go. She enjoyed her favorite hobby, gardening. Mavis was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Survived by her loving family, three daughters, Alma Grant of North Port, FL, Dorothy Spence of Port Charlotte and Winsom Weddenburn of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Gloria Richards of Jamaica; two brothers, Vernal Richards of Jamaica and Owen Richards of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9:00AM-10:00AM, Friday, August 5, 2011 at Community Life Center of Full Gospel Ministries Assembly of God, 19048 Edgewater Drive Port Charlotte, FL. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 10:00AM, August 5, 2011 at the church. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
