moved to Port Charlotte. Birth injuries left him with severe cerebral palsy, and a lifetime of illnesses and hospital stays. Despite these limitations, Michael valiantly lived life with courage and a loving heart. He attended schools in both Maryland and at Charlotte Harbor School, where he graduated in 2007. He was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Michael loved being outdoors, camping with family, and being with others at family and friends gatherings.
Michael’s father, George P. Kalaf, died in 2008. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Kalaf of Port Charlotte and his brother, Nathan Kalaf of Portland,Oregon. He has two half brothers, Stephen Kalaf of Centerville, Va.,and Kenneth Kalaf of Silverthorne, Co. In addition, he was a cherished part of the Warren and Jessie Kelly family of four aunts,uncles and spouses of Arthurdale, West Virginia, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. His father’s family, sister Leila Akers and brother, Walter Kalaf and wife Janie, reside in Florida.
Memorial services will be held later. He will be laid to rest with his father, George Kalaf, at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
