Milton Leroy (Rabbit) Van Meter, 77, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 19, 1931 in Cumberland, Maryland and moved to Port Charlotte in 1992 from there. He was an ironworker for the Local 568 in Cumberland for many years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge # 2983 in Cumberland. He was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joanne Van Meter of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Dawn Laber of Cumberland, MD and Debra Lynn of Amissville, VA; two sisters, Mary Louise Houdersheldt of Wiley Ford, West Virginia, and Linda Meanyhan of Daytona, FL; a brother, Bill Van Meter of Cumberland, MD and a grandson, Todd Laber of Cumberland, MD.
