Miriam W. Pultz-Bein, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Signature Health Care of Port Charlotte.
Mrs. Bein was a daughter of the late Herbert and Harriet Woods, and a direct descendant of a first settler of Stamford, Connecticut, Daniel Finch. A graduate of Beaver College and the University of Bridgeport, she taught history, French and Spanish at Stamford High School from 1947 to 1961, and retired as dean of Rippowam High School in 1972.
She was moved to Port Charlotte in 1978 from Connecticut. Member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Port Charlotte, Beaver College Alumni and of L’Amicale of Middlebury, VT. She was a former President of Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and a life member of the Retired Teachers of Connecticut. While dean she promoted the international exchanges of students, and traveled to Europe and South America with her students.
Survived by her loving family, a granddaughter, Debra O. Boyer of Falls Village, CT; stepdaughters, Kelly L. Spiers of CT, Marlene Gokenbach and Linda Traina of St. Louis, MO; a brother-in-law, Robert Norloff of St. Petersburg Beach, FL; a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Joy Andersen Sorenson, a sister, Carol W. Norloff, and her husband, Anthony E. Bein.
Graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Roxbury Cemetery, Stamford, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 2811 Tamiami Trail #L-1, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or to a church of your faith.
