Nicholas Anthony Nelson, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the age of 47 after developing a seizure disorder in May.
Nick was born in Rochester, NH on June 17, 1977, to Cheryl and Willard Nelson. A short 18 months later, he moved in with his grandparents, Roy and Rosalie Weston who raised him in Wolfeboro, NH.
Nick was married to Amanda Nowak Nelson on July 4, 2009. Over the past fifteen years, they have made an eclectic family of biological and adopted children along with a whole host of rescue animals. Nick was always wanting to help anyone or any animal he could and at the time of his passing he was trying to convince his wife to save a baby raccoon.
Nick spent his life post-graduation from Kingswood Regional High School working as a carpenter. Upon arriving in Florida with his family, Nick started working at Teixeira Construction, a job he loved. He was so proud of his work. His most recent job was renovating a Hampton Inn. He loved to show his family how it was turning out and always had good stories about his work. Just watching Nick work, you could tell he loved his job.
Nick touched a lot of lives with his humor, his warmth and his protective nature. The great joys of his life were his family and his friends. A good old Italian boy, his family came second only to his grandmother’s meatballs (kidding, but not kidding). If you needed a place to stay, you had a place to stay. If it was your special day (for whatever reason) he would celebrate with you. Nick could share a laugh with anyone, despite being an introvert that loved his alone time.
He rooted for people and wanted everyone to do better. If you were trying your best, he had your back. It didn’t matter if he saw eye-to-eye with you, if you needed help, Nick would help. If something needed fixing, Nick would fix it. If an animal needed rescue, Nick would pretend he didn’t want to, and then be the first one to greet it at the door. Nick was every animal’s favorite person in the house. He would greet each person and animal individually every night he came home from work.
Even more than the animals, Nick loved his family. He loved hearing about their lives, spending time with them, and embarrassing his kids by trying to use their slang. The family group chat never stopped. Always a fan of a good dad joke, Nick wore all the goofy T-shirts the kids and his wife gave him with pride. He even had a T-shirt he would wear when called by one of his friends to fix something that said, “I’m here because you broke something”. Every night at the dinner table Nick would lead the family in prayer (updating it with whatever issue was plaguing the family at that moment), but it would always end with: “God bless everyone we love and everyone we don’t. Amen.” That was Nick in a nutshell. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Nick is survived by his wife Amanda Nelson and their children: William Patrick Nelson, Cody Michael Phillips, Dakota Lynn Hines, and Jacoby Roy Nelson. Nick is predeceased by his grandparents, Rosalie and Roy Weston, his parents, Cheryl (Hull) Nelson and Willard Wayne Nelson, and his nephew Riley Chick.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Awaken Church at 390 Flamingo Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL on December 7, 2024, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Rescue Garage.
