Norman J. Stocker,(82) passed away peacefully on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, in Punta Gorda, Florida with his loving wife Margaret of 33 years and his family by his side.
Norman was born in Buffalo, New York on November 6, 1941, to Frank and Loretta Stocker and raised in Tonawanda, New York, with his brother Alan. He graduated from Kenmore High School and the University of Buffalo. Norm also served in the Army National Guard of New York.
Norm had a huge heart, was a leader in many communities across the country and centered his life around his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He married the love of his life Margaret on June 8, 1991, and shared almost 40 beautiful years together. Norm often said, “it was the best decision I ever made” to marry Margaret.
Norm believed in living a life of service above self and had a tremendous work ethic. He spent most of his career as the Director of Labor Relations at the Town of Tonawanda and his legacy was the creation of the first ever Paramedic Program in New York State. He also started his own consulting business (Associated Labor Consultants), was an Arbitrator and Mediator, and the Town of Ellicottville Supervisor. He made significant contributions to many other community organizations, including being one of the founding members and Vice President of the James V. Ryan Paramedic Foundation, President of the Town of Tonawanda Retiree Association, President of the Kings Gate Homeowner’s Association, member of the Ellicottville Rotary Club, Commodore of the Sandy Beach Yacht Club, member of the Board of Directors at Betrand Chaffee Hospital, and Elmlawn Cemetery. In addition, he also served as the Secretary / Treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Industrial Relations Research Association of Western New York, where he was awarded in 1993 the Citizen of the Year Award, by his peers, for outstanding service to the Western New York Labor-Management Community.
Norm’s most significant life legacy was raising his two boys, Kevin and Brian, and touching so many other lives, including his daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces and anyone else who sought his mentoring, listening or advice. He also had so many friends wherever he lived – WNY, Ellicottville and Punta Gorda and they remained as life-long friends.
Norm is survived by his wife Margaret (Shickluna) Stocker, and children Kevin (Christy) Stocker of Kenmore, NY, Brian (Paige) Stocker of Downingtown, PA, and three loving grandsons Trevor, Connor and Nolan.
