PATRICIA (Pat) ELIZABETH PHELPS , 67, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Detroit, MI., passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014.

She was born January 8, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, and moved to Punta Gorda in 2005 from Detroit, MI. Mrs. Phelps was married to her husband Colin, on August 25, 1973. They met at the Chelsea Naval Hospital, Boston, where she was an officer as a Registered Nurse.

She is survived by her husband, Colin Phelps, two sons, Paul (Geraldine), Derek and grandson Guy. Also 1 sister, Kathleen Petty (Ray) (St. Louis, MO) and two brothers, Brian Bolger (Beverly) (Shenandoah Junction, WV) and Dennis Bolger (Denise) (Lewiston, ME)
Pat will have military honors by the U.S. Navy and interment at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM.

To Pat's family, my sincere condolences. I did not know Pat, but in my heart of hearts, I know she was a wonderful woman who served her country with honor. I am eternally grateful to her for that. I, too served in the Marine Corps. When I was wounded, I was sent to Chelsea Naval Hospital to recover. I missed receiving the loving care that I'm sure Pat gave to all her patients. I was there about 8 years before her. But I'm certain that the wonderful care I did receive from the Nurses of the day closely paralleled what she dispensed everyday. Thank you for your service to your country and to your family, Pat. With great pride and pleasure, I issue to you a hearty SEMPER FI!
