Dawn Audi left a message on October 9, 2011:
I was hired at SF on 08/19/96 by Bill. I worked as his secretary for a few years before his retirement. I remember well Bill's passion for golf and the love he had for his family. I also remember the many stories he shared with me regarding his time in the service. The one that stuck with me the most was when Bill was a pilot of a helicopter and, if I remember correctly, he was involved in a crash that landed in the ocean. Bill talked of the incident like it was an event of no importance. The fact that he served our country with such bravery is something to be so proud of but he acted like it was just another job. It was quite an honor to know Bill and I will remember him always. God Bless his soul and his family. You have my utmost respect and sympathy. Dawn Graham Audi

Margee, we were so sorry to hear of Bill's passing but were glad we had the opportunity to run into you and Bill a few weeks ago. It was our chance to say good bye. Wren summed up Bill in one word - a gentlemen - and we wholeheartedly agree. When you and Bill moved out of the neighborhood we lost two great neighbors. Although we didn't get to see you guys much it was always nice to run into you at the Club and catch up. We hope your family and your many friends here in Riverwood will help you get thru this difficult time. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Tom & Tracy

Bill and a few other Managers/Directors interviewed and hired me into State Farm in 1988 - Personal Lines Underwriting - Metro Fire. I remember that day well and won’t forget that he helped give me a chance to start a career… 23 years later, I appreciate the opportunity to keep making a difference. Bill was someone we all had immense respect for and we always wanted to work extra hard for him. He was a great man and Theresa and I will always have many fond memories of Bill and the whole Conroy family!

Bill was one of the first leaders I worked with at State Farm back in 1987. I have often thought about him over the years because of the positive impression he had on me. He always seemed to be a truly nice person with a gentle soul. I just heard about his death, and I wanted to send this note.

Our Association, and United States Marine Corps, lost a Brother with "Wee Jay's" passing (our Nickname for Bill). He will long be remembered as an excellent Marine Corps Officer, Leader of Marines, a great Pilot, an American Hero and most certainly our friend. I flew many missions with Capt. Conroy in Vietnam and can ayyesy to his skills and courage under fire. I remember chatting with him for quite awhile at an Association Reunion, in New Orleans, several years ago. Even after 40 years he was still quite an impressive person. "Wee Jay" and I exchanged emails on August 19, 2011, when he asked me to ensure that his name and email address were correctly listed in our Association's Roster. ...With a Tear in My Eye... ...I am Proud to Have Served with This Marine... ...SEMPER FI... Margee, I was so surprised and sorry to read of Bill's passing in the Pantagraph. Please accept my sympathy. I don't know if you remember, but Bill and I both went to Stephen Decatur High School. We used to laugh because we were in the same class, but neither of us could remember the other. I do hope you are well and I know you will be strong during this very sad time. I am not sure if you knew this, but John passed away in 2005. I miss him dearly, but am so grateful to have shared his life. There are so many wonderful memories. For you and Bill that is surely true too. We all did love that silly game of golf, good times at State Farm, and love of family and friends. Please take care and know you will be in my prayers. Sincerely, Pam

Margee and family, now that Bill's long struggle against his disease is over, we think of him and remember his courage and determination throughout it all. He was a 'nice' man as one of the guys at the golf club said to us at the club one day this past summer -- we can't think of a better way for people to remember a man. We hope you have good, strong memories of your lives with Bill and can call on them as you go through this very difficult time. Sincerely, Anne and Dean Latsch

Bill was the first person I met when I joined the Riverwood men's golf Assn. He made me feel welcome from the first minute and always spoke to me whenever we met. We shared Vietnam stories and since I fished the pond across the fairway from his house he was always curious about my success or lack of it. I was a new guy on the block but Bill made me feel like an old friend and for that I am very grateful. We are saddened by his loss and extend our condolences to Margee and the rest of the family. Margee: So sorry to find this and learn of Bill's passing. I roomed with Bill and two others (Brian Orr and Bill Vance) for Bill's first two years at ISU. We had great times play cards and trying to become adults. My wife and I recently bought a condo in Naples, FL and, in visiting with another of Bill's room mates (Brian Orr), he mentioned that he felt Bill was living in Punta Gorda, FL. Hoping to reconnect, I was saddened to find this site. Wishing you the very best!!! Bill was one of the good guys!!! keith klintworth
