RICHARD F. KENDZIA, 89, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at home in Port Charlotte.
He was born January 9, 1925 in Leonardo, New Jersey and moved to Port Charlotte in 1974 from Highlands, New Jersey. He retired after 30 yrs of fire service as Fire Chief for the Air-Defense Command at Fort Hancock, Sandy Hook, New Jersey. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, American Legion Post #110 and the Elks Lodge all of Port Charlotte. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (N.A.R.F.E.). Richard was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as an air traffic controller.
He is survived by his Fiancé, Gloria Schultz of Port Charlotte; two daughters, Lorraine Merson and Joyce Young both of Ellsworth, Maine; a sister, Ann Joy Isaksen; brothers,Tucker and Teddy Kenzia; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, August 17, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel with a Wake Service at 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11:00 AM, August 18, 2014 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment with military honors by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post #110 will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
