Richard “Dick” Allen Parry, 77, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully August 24, 2013 after a long illness.
He was born March 28, 1936 in Utica, New York to the late Evan and Laura Parry. Dick was very proud of being 100% Welsh and a few years ago he and his wife traveled to Wales and Ireland.
Dick served four years in the U.S. Air Force and six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. While at Tidewell Hospice he was honored by a pinning in recognition of his service to his country. He loved the outdoors, especially being with his three boys, sharing in their Boy Scouting activities, fishing, gardening, and traveling the country back roads. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man with a warm smile. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and a long time member of Gansevoort, NY Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Eastern Star with his wife.
He retired from New York Telephone after 26 years of service and moved to Florida with his family in 1992. Dick also worked for the State of Florida as a risk manager and prior to his death he worked for 8 ½ years for Charlotte County as a security officer.
Dick is survived by his loving family, his wife of 47 years, Mary Jane Parry of Port Charlotte; three sons, Todd (Mary Beth) of Tampa, FL, Noah of Port Charlotte, and Peter of Port Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Bridget, Kevin, Reagan, Jaiden, Adriana, Olivia and Charlotte; sister-in-laws, Ginger Parry of Whitesboro, NY and her children and Patsy Bedard of Milton, VT; brother-in-law, James (Linda) Trudell of Milton and his four sons; mother-in-law, Doris Trudell of Burlington, VT; a niece, Sue (Tom) Schaefer of Whitesboro; and a nephew, Bill (Judy) Parry of Utica, NY and their children. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, Evan and Edward Parry. “Soar with your eagles my love”.
A committal service with military honors by the U.S. Air Force will be held Saturday 10:00 AM, August 31, 2013 at the Port Charlotte Beach Park Boat Ramp. Everyone is welcome to attend. A private burial at sea will be held as per Dick’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. His wife and sons wish to thank his doctors and staff of Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte, and the Port Charlotte Staff of the Tidewell Hospice House.
