Robert, or Bobby as I was to call him, was my first Sgt. at Arms at Post#110, Port Charlotte. I had joined Post#110 in 1993, but never went there much. Then I received a bulletin from the post, asking for volunteers for The Honor Guard. I called and asked what it was about and when they told me, I said to myself If I can't do anything else (because of my disabilities), I can surely Honor Passed Fellow Veterans. Bobby taught me, first by shoing me.. and then 'shoving me into the middle of it.' Bobby was one of the friendliest men I have ever known. He taught me by example and 'on the job'. He'd correct my mistakes and explain the why's of what was wrong. He never yelled. He was always cordial but he could be a staunch defender as well. My daughter's and wife met him when I was inducted as 2nd Vice-Commander in 2007. My youngest daughter thought he was very special and I was honored when she told me at the Grand Opening of the new building, Dad, can I take some pictures of you and your friends? I was so very Honored to be amongst these men and women Veterans. I stood in awe of all of them and still hold them in my heart as friends and Fellow Service persons. For Sara and the children, My blessings and condolences are with you. This man was so very special and he will be dearly missed. Mark P. Phillips

Bob your ever present smile will be missed. Even with all your discomfort you called me when John passed & helped with the Memorial service at the Legion. You have some great company up there -- enjoy and suffer no more.RIP Bea(the one time hat lady)
