Continue ReadingRudi Kurt Rennert, age 71, of Punta Gorda, FL, and former longtime resident of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, passed away at Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL on Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Gutzler) Rennert.
Rudi was born in Haagen, Germany, December 9, 1953, and moved with his parents, Horst and Hilde Schwarzer, to Haverhill, Massachusetts. They later moved to Dennis Port on Cape Cod, where Rudi graduated from High School. He became a U.S. citizen on November 14, 1972. His further education resulted in licensing as an Airframe Power Plant technician, and he applied these skills to a variety of helicopters and airplanes when he enlisted in the Army in 1978, honorably discharged at Fort Ord in 1981 with a rank of Sergeant E-5. His career as a technician later took him to the Colonial Gas Company, where he worked until his retirement. Throughout his life, Rudi loved traveling and exploring nearly every part of America and beyond, especially the National Parks. Living in all four corners of the country, he enjoyed making new friends and seeing lots of wildlife and nature. Family was everything to Rudi. His love for his children and his grandchildren was the true center of his life. Every card, every phone call, every visit brought joy to his heart. Rudi will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, generosity, devotion to family and friends, and his wonderful sense of humor.
Rudi is survived by his loving wife, Judi; by his former wife Patricia; by his children; Rudi Rennert, Jr. and wife Ilona of Carlsbad, CA; Julie Ann Egan and husband Jason of Norfolk, MA; stepson Thomas Gutzler and wife Olga of Boca Raton, FL. He was a proud grandparent to Quinn, Shea, Emery, Isabella, Luna, Angelina, and Elijah. In addition, he is survived by his half-brothers; Andrew, Detlef, Friedholm, and half-sister; Angelika.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00noon at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel at 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL. Inurnment will be held 12:30PM, Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to in Rudi’s memory to the Peace River Wildlife Center, 3400 Ponce de Leon Pkwy, Punta Gorda, FL 33950, or online, http://www,prwildlife.org.
