Ruth Caryol (Niswonger) Gause, 88, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Charlotte on Friday, January 24, 2025.
She was born to Lewis Niswonger and Irma Virginia Niswonger, on January 1, 1937. Ruth and Ron married in 1953 in St Philip Catholic Church in Dungannon, Ohio. They raised their children in Guilford Lake, Ohio and moved to Charlotte County in 1972. She enjoyed her work at Fred Treworgy Rental & Supply and Holiday Mobile Homes after daughters volunteering at Sallie Jones Elementary. She was the bookkeeper and secretary for Chucks’ business’, Punta Gorda Welding and Dockside Marine Service for 50 years. She also found the time to assist brides as the seamstress and floral designer for Lynn’s business Charlotte Bridal Boutique for many years.
Ruth was an active member of the Florida Flywheelers Club for 26 years, club treasurer for 3 years and volunteered in the kitchen with Lynn for many years. Over the years Ruth, Ron and Chuck have spent countless hours working on any project needed. She and Ron will be greatly missed by their friends at the club. Her favorite hobbies were boating, fishing, antiquing, sewing, collectibles, and volunteering at the Florida Flywheelers club. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family, friends and all her “honorary sons and daughters”.
She is survived by her four children Sheryl (John) Heinze, Salem,Ohio, Teri (Bobby Fossum) Nelson, Chuck Gause and Lynn (Ted) Atkins, Port Charlotte. Her grandchildren, Shawn (Kristina) Binsley, Powell, Ohio and Mike (Jen) Nelson, Lake Placid, Florida. Great Grandchildren, Makenzie (Matt) Baumann, Mallory Nelson, Jimmy Nelson, Hailey Binsley and Gavin Binsley. She was Preceded in death by her parents Lewis Niswonger and Irma Virginia Niswonger, and her beloved husband of 66 years, James Ron Gause.
Services will be held for Ruth this Wednesday, January 29, 2025, beginning with visitation at 10:00 AM, and Catholic Prayer service to be held at 11:00 AM, at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel, and committal with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery also in Port Charlotte, at 11:45 AM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
In leu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ruth’s memory to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., or the Florida Flywheelers Club.
