Sohan Roopan Singh of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed Thursday, March 5, 2015.
He was born June 4, 1926, in Niesmes, West Bank Demerara in Guyana, to Etwaria Singh and Roopan Singh. Sohan was educated in Guyana and upon completion went to England to study law. He graduated from Middle Temple University, London as a Barristerat-Law. He met his wife Alice in London, was married, and moved back to Guyana. He conducted a successful law practice and his daughter Indira Rovita and son Hans Leonard Dilip Roopan were born. A stellar practice led to him becoming a Magistrate for the government. He presided over many important trials and government issues and was highly respected by his superiors and peers as well as the people he judged. He moved to Brooklyn, NY, and was admitted to the American Bar. He practiced law from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. He moved to Florida, in 1993, and enjoyed his golden years.
He leaves behind his daughter, Indira; son, Hans; sister, Ellen; and many nieces and nephews living in Florida, New York, Canada and England. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 9,2015. Indian Service and Cremation will be from 10a.m. until 12noon Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Roberson Funeral Home, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
