Spencer Vee Hill, 58, passed away at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida on Sunday September 28th, 2025.
Born on January 21, 1967, in Media, Pennsylvania, Spencer spent his early years in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. He spent his childhood surrounded by his beloved family and friends, many of whom became lifelong friends. Spencer began his career at CITI Steel in Claymont, Delaware as a Melting Foreman. He eventually worked his way up to an executive leadership position as Vice President of Operations for TMS International.
A defining moment in Spencer’s life came in 2000 with the birth of his daughter, Sydnee. Spencer often referred to the day Sydnee was born as the happiest of his life. Anyone who knew Spencer understood that his love for his daughter was immeasurable, and she was his greatest pride and joy.
After settling in Valparaiso, Indiana, Spencer met his wife, Melissa. Together, they built a family, blending their lives with Melissa’s son, Kadin, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures. Spencer had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and riding dirt bikes.
In 2016, Spencer was diagnosed with throat cancer. After enduring months of intense treatment, he received the life-changing news that he had overcome the disease, which was celebrated during a family trip to the Florida Keys. Just three years later, Spencer faced another challenge, a diagnosis of anal cancer. He battled this new cancer with the same strength and determination, overcoming the disease in 2020. Spencer and Melissa then made the decision to move to Port Charlotte, Florida, where the warm weather and access to the ocean aligned perfectly with Spencer’s love for fishing.
Sadly, earlier this year, Spencer received the devastating news that the anal cancer had returned. On top of the anal cancer, he was battling recurrent pneumonia due to complications from his throat cancer. Spencer navigated this with the same strength and grace that defined his life.
Spencer is preceded in death by his mother, Lauretta June (Natrin) Hill, Father George Nevin Hill Sr., his brothers, David Hill, Nevin Hill, Eddie Hill, Jay Vanzant, and George Hill Jr. He is survived by his wife Melissa (Petro) Hill, daughter Sydnee Hill (Maxwell), stepson Kadin Petro, stepmother Betty Ann Hill, siblings Daryl Woodall, La Ree Woodall Giandonato, Duane Hill (Terri), and Darlene Henty (Allen), his beloved dogs Mack and Bella, his cat Bean, and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Spencer’s family asks that you make a donation in his name to the International Papillomavirus Society (https://ipvsoc.org/donate/). Their mission is to contribute to the elimination of papillomavirus-related diseases, a virus that is responsible for multiple types of cancer including throat cancer and anal cancer. Spencer was passionate about furthering research and education on HPV-related cancers similar to his own.
Spencer will be deeply missed, and his presence will continue to live on through his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date with more details to follow.
