Steadman Sawney, age 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2019, at his Port Charlotte residence.
Steadman was born March 13, 1933 on Grenada in the Caribbean, to the late Theophilous and Mary (Yates) Sawney. Educated in Grenada as a Pharmacist, he immigrated to England in 1959, where he and his wife Anne, lived until relocating to Brooklyn, New York in the United States in 1971. Following his retirement as a Pharmacist, they retired to Port Charlotte in 1989. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Port Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, Steadman was preceded in death by his many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne Sawney of Port Charlotte, FL, a daughter, Cheryl Wharton of Canada; sons, Richard Sawney of Canada and Lincoln Sawney of Grenada; grandchildren, Corey and Corina Wharton; sister-in-laws, Verna Pierre and her son, Damien Pierre, of Port Charlotte, FL, and Mary (spouse Leo) Forbes, and their son, Brian Forbes of Port Charlotte, FL; niece-in-law, Peggy Ann Pompey, and many, many more nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation for family and friends of Steadman will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Roberson Funeral Homes, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at St. James Episcopal Church, 1365 Viscaya Drive, Port Charlotte, Florida. Committal and entombment will follow funeral services at 2 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.
