Steven M. Berdeaux, age 67, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on March 25, 2025, following a lengthy illness. Born on May 20, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, Steve lived a life rich with devotion to his faith, family, service to his community, and a love for simple pleasures that brought him joy.
Steve was a proud graduate of North Farmington High School and furthered his education at Walled Lake Vocational Education in Michigan, where he developed his passion for culinary arts. Later, he attended Manatee Community College (now State College of Florida) in Bradenton, where he continued to pursue his career and interests.
A hardworking man, Steve served the Catholic Diocese of Venice for over 17 years in the building department at the Catholic Center. He also contributed to his family’s businesses, including Gulfshore Glass and Mirror and the Red Garter in Sarasota, as well as his own Berdeaux Cleaning Service.
Steve was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, holding a 3rd Degree membership in Council 8074 and a 4th Degree membership in the St. Jude Assembly in Charlotte County. His commitment to service was evident not just in his professional life but also in his faith and community involvement.
Steve’s greatest joy, however, came from his role as a father and husband. After the birth of his daughter, Christina, he embraced his role as “Mr. Mom” and “Play Daddy,” lovingly caring for her and cherishing every moment. His devotion to family was immeasurable, and he took great pride in nurturing those he loved.
A talented cook, Steve found peace in preparing meals that brought people together. Whether cooking for his family or enjoying quiet evenings with his favorite comfort shows on MeTV, Steve’s warmth and sense of humor brightened the lives of all who knew him.
Steve leaves behind his beloved wife, Jeanne Berdeaux, of Punta Gorda; daughter Christina Pizzi (Dan) of Charlotte County; brothers Douglas Berdeaux (Linda) of Daytona Beach, and Ty Berdeaux (Kathy) of Port Orange.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Pregnancy Solutions, 950 Tamiami Trail, Unit 105, Port Charlotte, FL 33953 (www.pregnancysolutions.org), in Steve’s honor.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 West Charlotte Avenue, Punta Gorda on Saturday, April 12, at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at Venice Memorial Gardens, 1950 Center Road, Venice, Florida. This date was one that Steve celebrated every year with his wife as it is the 40th anniversary of the day they met. All are invited to join the celebration of Steve’s life.
Steve will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
