Susan “Susie” Selleck, 74, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 28, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Susan was born in Willimantic Connecticut on November 5, 1943. While in Connecticut Susan worked for Stop & Shop Supermarket for more than twenty years and then went on to purchasing, renovating and flipping old homes. In 1989 she came to Port Charlotte for the winter with a girlfriend and loved it so much she decided to make it her home. She obtained her real estate license and lived there until she retired to Hiawassee Georgia in 2006. She loved her retirement and living in the mountains. She had a great love for nature, animals and the many friends she had in the area.
Susie had a passion for life, a love for others and a contagious smile. She was known for making intricate pine needle baskets and was a member and past president of the Shooting Creek Basket Weavers Guild. She also enjoyed her card and book clubs although it is believed she liked socializing at the clubs more than reading the books or playing the card games. Susie also loved history and was involved in the creation of the Sunshine Selleck Genealogy Club. She was a member of Unity Church of the Mountains in Blairsville Georgia where she served on the hospitality committee and was known to throw the best church picnics ever.
Susie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Robin Vazquez and son in law Walter of Punta Gorda; grandchildren, Rebecca Dingman, Jason Monroe, Ryan Monroe, Daniel Vazquez, sister Nancy Freeman, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, many others that she considered family and last but not least her beloved cat Woody Two Shoes.
A celebration of Susie’s life will be held Sunday 1:00 PM on June 3, 2018 at her daughter’s home located at 230 Venezia Court in Punta Gorda, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Susan Selleck Memorial Fund at the Charlotte Community Foundation, 227 Sullivan St. Punta Gorda FL 33950.
