He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1944 to William Thomas Logan and Violet Lillian Gerth and grew up in the Cincinnati suburb of Mt. Healthy Ohio. Tom and his sister Valerie we raised by his grandparents Carl and Elizabeth Gerth. He had a large family of cousins but spent much of his student years with his best friend Tom Young and parents, Dorothy and Ray Young, who welcomed him as a second son. He graduated from Mt. Healthy High School and after a short visit with his father to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he joined the Air Force where he served as a Photographic Technician at the Air Force base in Orlando, Florida. Upon release from service, he married his first wife, Jodi, in Miami Beach and worked at a motion picture laboratory while attending Dade County Junior College. He moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University and graduated with his BS degree in in Microbiology in 1973. He received his master’s degree in Hospital Administration from OSU in 1977.
Tom dedicated much of his career to Health Care. He served as a Hospital Administrator for two hospitals. He worked as an Inspector for the State of Florida, inspecting assisted living facilities. Tom and his second wife, Ricki, relocated to Georgia to help run an Assisted Living Facility. He eventually retired from the State of Georgia where he worked on writing and managing complex contracts.
Tom is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ricki Logan, residing in Port Charlotte, Florida. His beloved children, Heidi S. Oquendo, her husband Christopher and their son Max in Atlanta, Georgia; and Matthew C. Logan, his wife Jamie and daughters Rebekah and Khloe who live in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Tom was proud of his service in the Air Force and a staunch supporter of Ohio State University football. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his gentleness, his sense of humor, his love of Tai Chi, fine wine, dark chocolate and good food. There will be a military service at Sarasota National Cemetery on November 26, 2024, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Kudzu : https://www.campkudzu.org/donate-2/
