Thomas Andrew Tedford, Jr., 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of East Hartford, Connecticut, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 in Port Charlotte.

Born on July 23, 1932 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Vera (nee – Peterson) and Thomas A. Tedford, Sr., Thomas served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953-1955. A former Connecticut State Government Corrections Business manager, he retired to Port Charlotte in 1994 from his longtime home of East Hartford, Connecticut. He was a member and 12 year Coach for the East Hartford Little League, Chairman of the East Hartford YMCA Board of Managers from 1972-1973; the Indian Guides, the UConn. Alumni Assoc. and life member of the Loyal Order of Moose, B.P.O. Elks, V.F.W., and American Legion. He was an avid golfer teaching his sons to play and achieved 7 Hole in 1’s in his golf career.

He is survived by his beloved wife Doris (nee – Beyer) Tedford, sons, Kent (Erika nee – Haynes) Tedford, Andrew (Susan) Tedford, and Thomas (Lisa) Tedford; and nine grandchildren, Molly, Maddie, Mabel, Maxwell, Owen, Megan, Alison, Kara, and Ryan.

A Memorial service celebrating Thomas’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel. Another Memorial service, date to be announced later, will be held this June in East Hartford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of choice.

My sincere sympathy and love to Doris, Kent, Andrew and Thomas and all of their families on the loss of Tom. I have known Doris and Tom for over fifty-five years and will always remember Tom as a kind and caring gentleman.

My sincere condolences to the Tedford family. I have fond memories of Mr. Tedford when I was a growing up three doors down from the Tedford's on Hills Street in East Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Tedford would include me in family trips to Yankee games as a child and those warm memories have endured throughout my life. The Tedford family was there for me as a child when my mother was sick with cancer and was there for me the day she passed away 35 years ago. When my father, Huck, passed away in 2007 from cancer as well- the flowers sent from the Tedford family helped make that day a little brighter as well. Special thoughts to Kent, Andy and my childhood friend Tommy - who I was able to spend time with this past fall in Charlotte, catching up on all of our childhood memories. He shared with me his father's illness and how especially happy he and his brothers were to head to Florida this past summer to play golf with their dad. He cherished that opportunity. Sorry to hear of the loss of your father. We had the pleasure of visiting with your parents with my sister Norma and husband, Pete Bellaria, when in FL. and of course, was part of growing up with your Mom in Manchester. Again, sorry for your loss and please extend my condolences to your Mom.
