VINCENT EDWARD “POPS” PLACANICA, 71, of North Port, Florida died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Port Charlotte Rehabilitation Center, Port Charlotte, Florida.
Vincent aka “Vinny Widda-Y” was born May 11, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Vincent and Maria (Ferri) Placanica. He moved to North Port in 2005 from Aberdeen, New Jersey.
He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran for 6 years and a retired New York City Police Officer of 20 years. Vinny retired from Verizon and later became a fisherman to the end (at the back of the boat). Vinny was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend and will forever be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 23 years, Regina Finnerty Placanica of North Port; his daughter, Desiree (Steve Egna) Darlyn of New York; his son, Christian Placanica of Farmingdale, NJ; 2 sisters, Terri (Joe) Russell and Judi (Carl) Conti; 4 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a granddog.
A Memorial will be held at a later date by the family.
