Vincent Ricketts, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte.

Vincent was born August 21, 1928 in Jamaica, West Indies and moved to Port Charlotte in 1991 from there. Vincent was a wonderful man who enjoyed life to the fullest and will be forever missed by all who loved and knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Cecile; his son, Levi Ricketts of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Valerie Jarrett of Port Charlotte; a sister, Sloretta Ricketts-Smith of Jamaica, WI; 4 brothers, Alexander Allen, Wilfred, Jonathan and Cleveland Ricketts all of Jamaica, WI; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, May 9, 2014 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Community Church of God, 3485 Jones St. Port Charlotte, FL. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, FL.

I want to extend my deepest condolences for the loss of Vincent Ricketts. My heart is with you and your family during this difficult time. I had the honor of being Mr. Ricketts’ neighbor, and even though I was only four years old at the time, he left an impression on me that I’ll never forget. I still remember seeing him outside by his garage, enjoying the Florida weather with that warm, familiar presence that always made my day brighter. He would always call me over to spend time with him. I can still feel the excitement of those moments—sitting with him while he cut pieces of sugar cane for me to snack on, listening to him tell stories about his life, or simply chatting about how his day was going. He treated me like a friend, like family, and those little moments became some of the greatest memories of my childhood. Mr. Ricketts wasn’t just a neighbor. He was a kind, generous soul who made everyone around him feel welcome and cared for. The love and warmth he shared live on in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him—including a young neighbor who will always remember how special he made the world feel.
