Walter was born on March 29, 1921 in Salem Massachusetts, to the late John and Anastasia (Laskowski) Maciejewicz. Walter graduated from Salem High School class of 1938. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a nose gunner on a B-24 bomber with the 456th bomber group stationed in Italy. Walter earned many awards including the air medal with 3 Oakleaf clusters and the E.T.O. ribbon with 5 battle stars. After the service, Walter went to work with the New England Telephone Company. After 33 years of service he retired in 1978. Walter and his wife moved to Florida in 1979 from Hamilton, MA. He was a life member of the V.F.W. post 1093 in Ipswich, MA serving as post commander and district commander. He was also a life member of the Port Charlotte D.A.V. chapter 82 and the B.P.O.E. lodge 2153. Walter was a devoted catholic and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews especially his beloved James and Diane Pechilis. He was preceded in death by loving wife, Diane (Pechilis) of 56 years and 3 brothers, Edward, John and Raymond.
Visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2016 with funeral prayer service at 2 p.m., at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Committal and Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
