Wilbert C. Lovins, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away at his home on July 23, 2020.
Wilbert retried from Cummins Engine Co. after 32 years and spent the majority of his retirement in Florida. He enjoyed working outside and singing in choirs and quartets. He was a member of the Tri-City Baptist Church of Port Charlotte; Wilbert was born in Rockcastle County, KY on June 15, 1934 to James and Gracie Mink Lovins. Wilbert married Mary Strahl on June 28th, 1952, his wife of 51 years. On Feb. 14, 2004 he married Fayrene Gibbs of Port Charlotte, FL.
Survivors include Fayrene Lovins, Daughter Sharon (Kevin) Wedan of Columbus, Indiana, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step-children Wanda (Steve) Potter of Ohio, Bud Gibbs of Florida, and 5 step-grandchildren. Wilbert is also survived by brother Gene (Sue) Lovins, Sisters Betty (Bob) Shafer and Sue Ellen (Elvin) Olmstead. He was preceded in death by Mary Strahl Lovins, his parents, brothers Lowell, Herman, and Mel Lovins and sisters Lorene Rayburn, Lenora Barnett, and Viola Bullock.
Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Funeral services and interment will be held later in Columbus, Indiana. In compliance with suggested guidelines to help prevent the further spread of Covid 19 and protect our most vulnerable and at-risk individuals, we ask anyone in attendance to please be respectful of others and observe social distancing and wear a personal protective mask.
