He was born May 17, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Florida 21 years ago from Chicago. William was a retired Lieutenant, Chicago Police Department. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #66 of Port Charlotte; Elks Lodge #2606 of Punta Gorda, the Retired Police Officers Assn. and the Kingsway Country Club of Lake Suzy. He was of the Catholic faith and veteran of World War II, U.S. Army.
Survived by his loving family, his wife of 60 years, Elaine M. Basketfield of Lake Suzy; three daughters, Barbara Basketfield of Riverside, IL, Carol Norvilas of LaGrange Park, IL and Diane Gryglak of Riverside, IL; a sister, Marilyn (George) Geisen of Georgetown, TX; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Basketfield.
