He was born May 15, 1929 in Rutherford County, North Carolina to the late Fons and Nora Cook and moved to Port Charlotte from Tampa, Florida in 1962. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and a retired painter. William was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survived by his loving family, his wife of 50 years, Virginia Copeland Cook; a daughter, Gail Winter; two sons, James B. Nichols and William L. Nichols all of Port Charlotte; a half-sister, Sue Jenkins of South Carolina; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
