At 4’4”, Diane was short in stature, but large in heart. Her kindness, generosity and perennially friendly nature touched many lives. Diane was the first of five children of Wardell and Hermina (Bauman) Domes. She underwent treatment for polio at Sister Elizabeth Kenny Institute in Minneapolis during her 5th and 6th grade years. After graduating from Blue Earth High School as Valedictorian, she attended Gustavus Adolphus College, and then worked for Northwest Orient Airlines for 11 years. She traveled to many areas of the U.S., including Hawaii, plus Cuba, Bermuda, and Spain. Diane was deeply devoted to family. She married Leo Peterson of Detroit Lakes, MN, in 1964, and together they raised two daughters, Leanne and Dawn, in Cottage Grove, MN. Diane loved her five grandchildren dearly and spent many hours reading to them, and playing games and make-believe with them when they were young. Diane enjoyed helping others through volunteer activities, including at the elementary school office, as a Girl Scout leader, and with her church quilting group. She also enjoyed playing bridge, crafting, reading, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Diane loved nature, and watching the antics of birds and other wildlife from her window always brought a smile to her face. Diane spent seven years living with her daughter, Leanne, and family in Victoria, MN, after Leo’s death. In April 2023, she moved to Punta Gorda, FL, to live with her daughter, Dawn, and family. We are so thankful for the years we were able to spend with her so close in our lives.
She is survived by her daughters, Leanne (John) Zeller of Victoria, MN, and Dawn (George) Grabrick of Punta Gorda, Florida; grandchildren Emma and Chloe Zeller, and Elijah, Jonah and Ania Grabrick; siblings Colleen (Don) True, John (Joleen) Domes, Barb Pettey, and Connie Erdrich. Preceded in death by husband, Leo Peterson.
