Charlotte May Appel, a longtime resident of Charlotte County for over 50 years, died on Friday, February 20, 2026, at age 96.

She was born on March 23, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland.  After moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she and her husband William owned and operated a Rexall Drug Store until they decided to move to Port Charlotte in 1970.  

Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charlotte is survived by her seven children, Claire Bergman, Monica and husband Don Dickson, Louise and husband Nabil Habayeb, Marcy Appel, Bonnie Desguin, William Appel, Greg and wife Neyra Appel, along with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Many would describe Charlotte as a strong woman, a force of nature, unfiltered as she would usually always say what was on her mind.  She was known as “the Egg Lady” with her monthly donations of eggs to local charities of St Vincent de Paul at St. Charles Borromeo and San Antonio Catholic Churches.

Charlotte lived a long and adventurous life and proud of all that she accomplished, however, the love of her family was her shining star.

A mass and burial will be held at St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church on March 23, 2026, at 1 pm.  A reception at 2101 Haskell Street in Port Charlotte will follow.  In lieu of flowers, please donate eggs to the local charities mentioned above.
