EVERETT W. LEONARD, 96, of Katy, Texas and formerly of Port Charlotte died Saturday, June 9, 2007 in Katy, where he has resided since July 2000.
He was born March 4, 1911 in Franklin, New Hampshire. He attended high school in Franklin, the Massachusetts Commercial College in Northampton, and
the University of Virginia (Ext.) in Arlington, Virginia. On June 26, 1937 he married
Ursula Ann Elliot in Washington, D.C. He was employed in the head quarts of the U.S.
Post Office Department in Washington, D.C. for 40 years, during which time he was a
United States Delegate to the Universal Postal Congress of 1947, Paris, France. His last
position with the U. S. Post Office Department was Chief of the Settlement Branch. He
was a member and Past President of Chapter 2039 of the National Association of Retired
Federal Employees.
He served several churches as an organist in the Washington area, including 18 years at the Mount Olivet Methodist Church in Arlington; as well as the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Punta Gorda, and most recently at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Port Charlotte. He was a longtime member of the American Guild of Organists, as was the Dean of the District of Columbia Chapter. He also was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, where he sang in the choir as
Well as in the Cultural Center Chorus. He was an active member and Past President of
of the Friends of Music of Charlotte County.

Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie L. Reese of Katy; a son, Hugh W. Leonard
of Strasburg, VA; his three grandchildren, Kenneth E. Reese, Kendall E. Reese and
Karen E. Campbell; and three great grandchildren, Kyle E. Reese, Travis L. Reese and
Courtney A. Reese. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula Leonard who died in
1989.
Funeral services were held Monday June 11, 2007 at the First United Methodist
Church, Katy, TX. Graveside services will be held Thursday 10 AM, June 14, 2007 at
Restlawn Chapel. Rev. Mark Knowles, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Port
Charlotte will officiate. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port
Charlotte.
