J. R. Pat Gorman, 89, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died Friday, December 8, 2006 at his residence.
He was born September 27, 1917 in Baltimore, Maryland to Hazel Robinson Gorman and J. R. Gorman, Sr. Pat graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1939 and from Georgetown University Law School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 at Camp Lee, Virginia where he met his lovely wife of 60 years, 2nd Lt. Army Nurse Margaret E. Longenecker. He was an attorney in Washington D.C., active in Association Management and behind the scenes politics, including starting and running the National Ike and Dick and Nixon Lodge Clubs. He was also actively involved in Leadership roles in the Boys Club of Greater Washington. Pat moved to Punta Gorda from Bethesda, Maryland in 1978 and was a long time member and official greeter of the Punta Gorda Rotary Club, member Punta Gorda B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2626, Official Ambassador for the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce and Punta Gorda Business & Community Alliance. He also helped to Charter the National AMVETS.
Survivors include his spouse Margaret and four children, Kathleen G. (Paul) Marshall of Port Charlotte, FL, Susan E. Gorman of North Port, FL, Mickey Gorman of Punta Gorda, FL, and Buz (Kathleen) Gorman of Arlington, VA, and eight grandchildren.
