Gabriella Suzanne Mackey, 73, of Punta Gorda, FL and long-time resident of Teaneck, NJ died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at home. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda.

Gaby was born June 6, 1938 in Budapest, Hungary. She received a B.S. from Boston College and Master’s from Georgetown University. She worked in pharmaceutical research before teaching advanced high school chemistry for 25 years. She was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Paul A. Mackey of Punta Gorda; son, Kim (Meghan) Mackey, M.D. of Middleton, WI; daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Carlson of Broomfield, CO; 4 step-children, Debra Ober, Wendy Kydd, Paul S. Mackey, Carol Mackey-Jones and 12 grandchildren. Gaby will be strongly remembered, and greatly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday, February 17, 2012 at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Friends may visit online at www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Homes & Crematory, Punta Gorda.

Gabby was such a wonderful person. The first time I really ever got to meet her was when she came in to the shop at captain bills barber shop. She had asked me to cut all of her hair off. I started to cut off her hair got all finished with one side and she said to me I don't want you to use clippers. I only want you to use scissors. I thought oh my goodness!! So I proceeded to finish I was so scared thinking how maybe she really didn't want it all off. I told her that it wouldnt be even and she looked up at me and said that will be fine with a smile............. I'm so glad that I got to know Gabby as a person she was such a wonderful lady. I will always remember her she is my hero. She endeavoured a lot more than a lot of us will.
