Anita M. McClelland, 98, of Port Charlotte, Florida died October 21, 2010 at her
residence in Port Charlotte.
She was born August 21, 1912 in St. Louise, Missouri to the late Edward and Florence
Morris. Anita grew up in Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. In 1932, while in nurses training at Bellevue Hospital in New York, she met Elmer (Mac) McClelland. They were married on
December 20, 1932. She received her certification as a Registered Nurse from Bellevue Hospital and a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University Teachers College. In 1947 Anita
and her family moved to the Panama Canal Zone, where they had a wonderful life for the next 27 years.
In 1973, Anita and Mac began their retirement in Port Charlotte. She enjoyed many
wonderful visits during the ensuing years with her grandchildren. In addition, she enjoyed the many hours she spent helping others through volunteer work with her church, the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, the Port Charlotte Library, and visits to local retirement homes. May our wonderful memory of shared experiences with this caring, loving friend and mother inspire others to live more perfect lives.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Van Hoose of Port Charlotte; a son, Charles A. McClelland of Springfield, VA; a sister, Elizabeth Morris of Waterloo, Iowa; a brother, Paul Morris of Vienna, VA; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Mac McClelland who died in 1982 and a brother.
