John E. Bates, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Tidewell Hospice Inc. in Port Charlotte.
John was born to James and Jessie Bates on April 18, 1929 in Seattle, WA and moved to Port Charlotte in 1982 from Michigan. John was a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Army and he was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, B.P.O. Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 110 all of Port Charlotte. He was a wonderful man who enjoyed life to the fullest and will be remembered by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 17 years, Doris; his step-daughter, Patricia Coe of Woodbridge, VA; 2 step-sons, Robert Carroll of Long Valley, NJ and Richard Carroll of Flanders, NJ and his brother, James Ott of Idaho.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held 10:00AM, Friday, April 8, 2016 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3391 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
