Charlotte Marie Kruger, 73, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Charlotte was born in Pontiac, Michigan on April 28, 1952, as the third of five children born to Anna and George Foster. She spent her early childhood years living in Trenton, New Jersey but later moved to Tampa, Florida as a teenager and attended Brandon High School. While in high school, Charlotte met and dated Gerald Kruger. The two were married in 1970 following a teenage romance and quickly started a family together. They eventually parted ways after four kids and many years together but managed to remain friends.
She later went on to meet the love of her life and late husband, Beryl Thompson. Charlotte and Beryl were married in South Carolina in 1991. During the early 90s, they moved from Tampa to Port Charlotte, Florida where they enjoyed an active lifestyle together by playing tennis, going on motorcycle rides, and traveling. The two were happily married and virtually inseparable right up to the day of Beryl’s passing in September 1999.
Charlotte took great pride in her role as a grandmother. Every New Year’s Eve, she would invite all of her grandchildren over for their very own New Year’s Eve party where there was “no rules” – just junk food, fun, games, and no bedtime. To this day, the New Year’s Eve parties are one of the grandkids’ fondest childhood traditions.
She was also an avid cook and baker. Charlotte loved to make the most decadent chocolate cake just to take one slice and share the rest with friends and family and it wasn’t a Kruger family function without a giant bowl of her macaroni salad. Most importantly, Charlotte was a devout Christian and loved reading/studying her Bible & leaning on scripture each and every day. It wasn’t uncommon to find handwritten Bible verses written on notebook paper and hung on her refrigerator.
Charlotte was a devoted wife, proud mother, stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her brother Fred (Rose) Foster, brother George Foster, sister Linda (Tommy) Burge, sister-in-law Renee Foster, children Gerald “Jerry” Kruger (Shelly Murphy), Teresa Barker-Kruger (Michael), Steven Kruger (Katie), and Theodore Kruger (Hope), stepson Scott Thompson, grandchildren Kara Kruger-Spence (James), Brandon Barker, Brooke Barker, Patrick “PJ” Murphy (Jamie), Breanna Kruger-Dolan (Shaun), Makaya Kruger-Furney (Justin), Alysia Kruger, Shyanne Kruger, Ashley Kruger, Kacy Kruger, Ciera Kruger, Sydney Kruger-Comer (Chris), Isabella Kruger, Nicholas “Nick” Iannicca, Emily Iannicca, Theo Kruger and great-grandchildren Liam, Jeremiah, McKinley, Arianna, Athena, Gracie, Theodore, Hayden, Anakin, Miley, Franklin, Julian, Starlyn, Thomas, Mason, Kashton, Lyla, Lucas, Audrey, Jackston, and Finley.
We take solace in knowing that she is now at peace and was greeted in Heaven by her late husband Beryl Thompson and her beloved dog & companion Lucky. She is also now reunited with her parents Anna & George Foster, her brother Douglas Foster, stepson Wesley Thompson, and her son-in-law Michael Barker.
Charlotte was a pillar of strength and wisdom to all who knew her. She touched the lives of countless people with her fiery yet loving personality. But above all else, her legacy as the one and only “Mamaw” and matriarch of the Kruger family will live on through the memories, values, and love she instilled in each and every one of us.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on July 28, 2025, at Roberson Funeral Home, 2151 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, Florida followed by a Funeral service at 11:00am to celebrate Charlotte’s life.
