David Alvarez, 74, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025.
David, from New Haven Connecticut where he graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, was for many years the editor in chief of the Connecticut Artists Magazine and a free/lance writer whose fiction, nonfiction, and essays appeared in various publications throughout New England. He is the author of two published novels, The Mayan and Rebel Blood, a Novel of Jesse James.
He resided in Punta Gorda, Florida with his wife Bertie, where he played as a musician and retired from Sarasota County’s North Port High School as a history teacher. He was a bass player with The Boogiemen for 35 years in Charlotte County. He has played 172 Charity Events for our Veterans, Children and Non-Profits with The BoogieMen.
He is survived by his wife, Bertie Alvarez, his two children Erika Planer and Alex Alvarez, and a sister, Maggie Clement. He has four, soon to be five beautiful grandchildren whom he adored.
