Elizabeth and Yacob Morowati left a message on September 9, 2011:
Dear Wendy: Dave was not only tall in height but in the life he led, shared wtih you, those he loved, and the principals he stood for. May you surround yourself with those who knew him well, cherished and loved him, as you do. He will remain with you always, in not just memories but in your continuing to live the passions, principals, and joys you shared together. Yacob and I only met him once, but he made a wonderful, endearing, lost-lasting and positive impression. Your love for each other and the life your shared were an example to us all. You are a gracious and wonderful lady, which Dave loved and we saw first hand. He will always be with you. Our hearts go out to you and yours. Most respectfully Elizabeth and Yacob Morowati

Gary & Linda Loewenstern left a message on September 9, 2011:
Oh Wendy, I can't even begin to wrap my head around this and can't even imagine your sorrow. Who would have thought that you and Dave, the vibrant and outgoing ones, would be such good friends to us boring accountants. Dave and you brought life to our vacations, from driving under the waterfall at Yellowstone to wash the car to hiking and finding the new born elk. Who would have believed that the conservative republican and the liberal democrat would end up playing cards until the middle of the night.( Even though you and Gary bet us almost every time.) Dave turned Gary into the club champion every time they played golf, a movie director in Cashiers, a professional football player on the airplane trips, and a goofy gay man in Vegas. I have tears dripping on the keyboard but I wanted you to know how much we will miss your wonderful husband. Love always, Linda & Gary
Bonnie Blair left a message on September 9, 2011:
Wendy, About 5 or more years ago the girls from the Charlotte County Commission office visited Tallahassee to see the legislative process in action. We met you and Dave for dinner and went to see your farm that he was so proud of. We raced through the country streets so we could get there before dark, but it was quite dark when we arrived and saw your farm by the lights of the SUV Dave drove us there in. It is a fond memory of my time in the commission office and meeting you and Dave. I am truly sorry for your loss ... he was a very nice and generous man.

Barbara Watson left a message on September 9, 2011:
Dear Wendy Ron and I were so very sorry to learn of Dave’s passing. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Dave was a wonderful guy and we remember fondly the times we spent with you both. Dave knew everyone and everyone liked him. How could you help but like Dave. His love of life was contagious.. And he was such a practical joker, we were always laughing… I still remember the “Mucky Duck” story – which I bought hook, line and sinker! As hard as Dave played, he worked harder. He poured himself into everything he did. When he was elected as District 71 Representative, we watched him tackle politics his way – the right way. Dave was a statesman, not a politician – a rare commodity these days. And Charlotte County was the winner with him in office. After serving, we watched from afar as you both moved to the Tallahassee area. Out of pocket but not out of our minds. He fought tirelessly for this state to make life better for everyone. As I sit here, I really cannot wrap my head around the idea that he is gone. He truly was larger than life. Wendy, we have always been impressed with your wisdom and strength. Draw on your faith and all the wonderful memories you have of Dave these past 20+ years. We love you both and pray that God will give you peace. Ron and Barb Watson

I will miss you my big brother, we shared many laughs, jokes and tears. I will miss the midnight phone calls on my birthday when you would sing to me. I find peace knowing that you are with mom and dad. This poem I feel is fitting; God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you, and whispered "Come to Me". With tearful eyes we watched you, we watched you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Much love, Dawn

Please accept the sincere sympathy of the Republican Club of South Sarasota County. Chairman Bitner was a great leader and a wonderful person, and he will be missed ~ not just by our Club, but by everyone who knew him. Dave was a warm and caring individual. We were very grateful to him (and of course to Wendy) for attending our Reagan dinner just after he was elected chairman. He made a very positive impression on our membership, and we will always remember his uplifting message of unity and purpose. He had planned to return to the area and visit our group again, but his illness prevented him. That is a great loss to our party and to everyone who could have learned from his wisdom and drawn from his strength. Sincerely, The Republican Club of South Sarasota County

Dave - it has never been more apparent than today that none of us will escape death, but you were taken way, way too soon. Who knew all those years ago what you would accomplish; how far you would come! You truly are an inspiration for what each of us is capable of. But you had so much more to do, to give! You were always larger than life, but now that you have traveled the longest journey of all, I hope you will have peace in heaven and no more pain. Wendy - no words could ever explain the senselessness of this, or the heartache you feel. But celebrate Dave, and when you are down, remember his big smile, his way of making you laugh, and most important his love for you. I hope that will carry you through until a brighter day! Tina

A fellow Republican but most of all I can call Dave and Wendy friends. Dave was always so posstive. I was trilled when he was elected chairman of the RPOF. He had his ideas and best of all looked to people for their ideas. I asked Dave when he was elected could we have a prayer time at 7:30am before the day started at our quartley meetings. He never thought twice,.It was done. The room was standing room only. It gave him confirmation that it was good for our people to come together for prayer before business. I am so glad that he saw the confirmation from the people that he was leading. I am so blessed to know Dave and Wendy. They are truly two people called by God to be his deciples during this time in our Sate and Counry. Thank you Dave and Wendy. He will be missed,

Wendy, I'll never forget the first time Dave came to Okeechobee and we had dinner and had such a great time talking about politics and issues but our favorite topic was about the Lord and he couldn't wait till you and I were able to meet. Everytime I was with Dave we had a great time. He was right when you and I met and hit it off right away. It was such a blessing to know him. Last year we had such a great time spending his birthday dinner with you both after Quarterly. I may only have known him a relatively short time but I knew his character and was proud to call him Chairman and friend. I love you Wendy. God gave you a great man to have years together and your family can be proud of all Dave did but most of all for the love he gave you so freely. He would love to brag on you and the family and was so happy to be married to you. He loved Jesus and knowing that gives the greatest comfort. Many people can believe in God but Dave knew it took a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in order to have Jesus in his life everyday and to make sure he was going to Heaven when he died. Today we can know that Dave walks in Heaven. He is very much alive right now and has no need for the wheelchair and has never felt so good! :-) The grief comes on our part because we miss him on this end and I will be praying for you daily as you walk through this time. I love you Wendy and I am here for you.

In my 35 years of public service Dave Bitner will be one of those people I will never forget. His integrity and later his faith were always driving forces of his life. I will never forget his and Wendy's compassion and genuine concern after Nancy got her debilitating diagnosis. If Dave and Wendy were your friends it was without strings or reservations. We all have regrets. The one I have now is that we passed through Monticello two weeks ago and "talked" about stopping. Being on a schedule we didn't. I'm sorry. May we all learn that impulse sometimes must trump schedules. Wendy, I we share your loss and share our love. We know his faith has been turned to sight and your faith will sustain you. Roger & Nancy

What a blessing God gave me to have known Dave and Wendy and being able to count them as my friends. When Dave was running for office, his was always my favorite campaign because he was always so "in the campaigning mode." Whatever he did, he did with all his heart and strength. He loved deeply, he fought fiercely, yet fairly. What a gentle Statesman. No matter where he would see his friends, he always welcomed them with a gigantic smile, a huge hug and a hardy "hello." Yes, I will miss you terribly, my friend, but my life and so many others have been touched by one of God's chosen ones. Thank you for the lessons I've learned through this. Through your suffering, you have shown you can still have joy. What a testimony. I will see you again one day. I love you Wendy.
