Eleanor R. Cronin, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Eleanor was born December 28, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Joseph and Louise (Williams) Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael B. Cronin, in 2014, and by her son, Thomas Lennon, in 2013. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Laurita and son-in-law Thomas Marshall of Switzerland; son James and daughter-in-law Theresa Cronin of Scarborough, Maine; daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Christopher Woodford of Scarborough, Maine; son Michael B. Cronin, Jr. of Scarborough, Maine; daughter-in-law Lisa Lennon of Methuen, Massachusetts; grandchildren Hillary and Amelia Lennon, Jessica and Courtney Cronin, Joseph Cronin, and Cameron and Delaney Woodford; and brother Paul and sister-in-law Virginia Reynolds.
Eleanor moved to Port Charlotte in 1987. Previously, she resided in North Andover, Massachusetts, and studied at Northern Essex Community College and Salem State College. She obtained her master’s degree in social work at Boston College, receiving the Helen J. Crowley Memorial Award for a program she created for the treatment of families of cardiac patients. Her program was expanded and adopted by numerous hospitals. She served on the staff of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care until her death.
A member of San Antonio Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Eleanor was active in the community, singing in the choir and participating in church organizations.
A visitation and gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 1, from 2-4PM at Roberson Funeral Home, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida, 33948. A memorial mass will be held Friday, March 2, at 11AM at San Antonio Catholic Church, 24445 Rampart Boulevard, Port Charlotte, Florida, 33980. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at San Antonio Catholic Church.
