George W. Gifford, II, 91 of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Wareham, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Dartmouth, MA and grew up in Rochester, MA. He graduated in 1952 from Wareham High School. After reforming to Wareham, he worked for Walter E. Rowley and Associates as a land Surveyor and attended Wentworth Institute. He was also a truck driver for Gault Transportation with Carl Subler Trucking doing cross country trucking. He later retired from Hiway Concrete in Wareham, MA where he made lifelong friends with the Vicino Family. George was very athletic and enjoyed many activities such as racquetball, rollerblading, boating and running road races and many 5K’s including Falmouth Road races where he entered and completed a triathlon at Otis AFB. His greatest enjoyment was golfing. He was a member of the Port Charlotte Country Club where he golfed 3 times a week up to 3 years ago. He was a club champion and was proud of his 2 holes in 1. He enjoyed many friendships and that’s where he met his partner, Mary Price. He was a lifelong member and Past Sachem of Improved Order of Redmen in Wareham, MA. He was a member of the Teamsters and coach of little league in Wareham.
Survivors include his children, Joanne (David) Stephenson of Wareham, MA, Glen R. (Lee) Gifford of Wareham, MA, Julie (George) Franklin of Wareham, MA, George (Mary) Gifford, III of Goffstown, NH, Greg (Nicola) Gifford of Wailuku, Maui, HI, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean A. Gifford (Tassinari), his parents, Raymond and Ellen Gifford and his son, Gerald A. Gifford.
A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Wareham, MA by the family. Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to Tunnel to Tower Foundation, www.t2t.org.
