Ilias “Lou” Karamitsos, a beloved father, grandfather, and long-time Englewood restaurateur, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Evangelismos, Greece, on March 28, 1949, Lou immigrated to Canada at the age of nine, later settling in Chicago, where he married the love of his life, Ellen Diakoumis. In 1985, Lou and Ellen moved their family to Florida, where he became a well-known and respected member of the community.
Lou was a passionate entrepreneur and restaurateur, best known for owning and operating Georgio’s in Englewood, Family Table in Grove City, Leoni’s in Canada, and several other successful restaurants. His hard work, dedication, and love for people turned each of his restaurants into a welcoming place for locals and visitors alike.
Lou later married again and cherished his role as a stepfather to Austin Smith, with whom he shared many meaningful years and memories.
He is survived by his son Christopher, his daughter Angela Dawn and her husband John, his stepson Austin Smith, and his cherished grandson Gabriel Ilias. Lou will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and devotion to his family, who were his greatest joy.
Funeral services and viewing will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 24411 Rampart Blvd, Pt Charlotte, FL 33980. The viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
