Jack was born February 11, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John and Anna Tormey. He grew up in Reading Massachusetts. He attended St. Agnes grade school, Central Catholic High School, and Northeastern University, where he studied civil engineering. Jack was a highly respected crane operator for the city of Boston. He was a member of the Local 4 International Union of Operating Engineering.
Jack retired in 2006 and moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. He had a love for cars, music, working in his garage, and recalling and telling stories. He enjoyed making people laugh and always tried to find the humor in things.
Jack is survived by his wife, Irene Tormey of Port Charlotte, Florida; a son, John David “JD” Tormey of Kingston, New Hampshire; a daughter, Shayla Conroy and her husband Chris Conroy of Windham, New Hampshire; his granddaughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” Tormey, Emma Conroy, and Mila Conroy, as well as his long-time best friend, Clayton Legault of Port Charlotte, Florida.
Visitation will be held Sunday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM December 17, 2023, at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11:00 AM, December 18, 2023, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 1441 Spear St., Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
