Lorraine Eleanor Figg was born on August 5, 1934, to parents Jacob and Eleanor Schwartzkopf in Saginaw, Michigan. She grew up there and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1952. She was active in the choir. After graduating she worked two jobs, Eaton Manufacturing and at the local drive-in restaurant to put herself through college which she started in 1955. She was in the Alpha Omega Chapter of Gamma Delta for Lutheran students to encourage Christian faith and service. She was also a member of the Appleblossom club that promoted rural education. Her brother Ron recalls her kindness and generosity, if there was any disagreement, she was quick to forgive and maintained a loving and supportive relationship. She had a very strong faith and was a devoted Christian. She was an excellent cook and created a German Cookbook for friends and family and made the best Pasties north of the Mason Dixon Line.
She graduated from Central Michigan College in 1957 with a teaching degree and became a music teacher for Elementary and Junior High School students. She loved playing piano and singing and was the organist and soloist for St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saginaw, Michigan for many years. She met the love of her life, Raymond D. Figg in at college and they were married on June 15th, 1957. They moved to Holly, Michigan and had three children, Julia Lynn, Lynette Kay and Steven Clifford Figg. The family moved back to her hometown of Saginaw in 1969 where she stayed home to raise her three children. She later worked in the family business Saginaw Knitting Mills where she was the office executive, accountant and general task master, handling anything and everything that came across her desk. They retired in 1994 and sold their business and spent several years boating in the Great Lakes. They moved to Punta Gorda, Florida in 1996 where she got bored and started teaching again as a substitute teacher for the Charlotte County School District for several years. She volunteered at the Punta Gorda Police Department and at the Fawcett Hospital at the reception desk. She and Ray traveled to several international destinations and she enjoyed many wonderful cruises and vacations, her favorite vacation was her cruise to Alaska.
Lorraine passed away comfortably on March 8th at Fawcett Hospital with her family at her side. She is survived by her husband Raymond, her three children and her brother, Ron.
