Phyllis Sadoff, age 81, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at home on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Phyllis was born on March 26, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jeannette (Bresky) Starkman. Phyllis earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Phyllis worked for many years as a Claims Representative in the Riverhead, NY office of the U.S. Social Security Administration, where she found her calling serving the needs of retirees and people receiving disability benefits. She retired from public service in 2003, after which she became a full-time resident of Florida.
In 1991, Phyllis met Wally, the love of her life. They married in 1995 and promptly embarked on a love affair for the ages. Together and with family, friends, and even strangers (who were simply future friends), this power couple traveled the globe, experiencing the best that life has to offer. With their personal warmth, lust for life, and obvious adoration for each other, Phyllis and Wally collected amazing experiences and built a library of lasting memories. From Paris to London, Hawaii to New York, and Beijing to Tokyo, fortune in the guise of first-class upgrades followed them everywhere.
Phyllis is remembered by family and friends as a generous, caring, spiritual, warm, and relentlessly positive individual, who both lit up a room and expressed genuine interest in others. Known for her “Phyllis-ophic” moments, she waxed poetic on any number of subjects. She loved to cook delicious, healthy meals for family and friends, and often hosted great dinner parties and social gatherings in her homes in Port Charlotte and previously, Southold, NY. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Phyllis loved visiting art museums and enjoyed the theater and classical music. Always active, Phyllis was a committed golfer and tennis player, and former Club champion. She was also officially recognized for achieving a rare hole in one at her home course at Riverwood Golf Club.
Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 30 years, Wally Sadoff of Port Charlotte, FL; children Leslie (Chris) Moon of Leesburg, Virginia, Ted (Maria) Goldwyn of Corning, NY, Kim (Guy) Abbate of Riverview, FL, and Jeffrey (Helen) Sadoff of Selden, NY; grandchildren Jason (Jamie) Smith, David (Lizzie) Smith, Sean (Jess) Goldwyn, Noah (Lee) Goldwyn, Kyle Hill, Neila Goldwyn, Emily Sadoff, and Jonah Goldwyn; and great-grandchildren Rosemary, Larkin, Keaton, Tyson, and Hutch Wally. She is also survived by sister Marlene Isban and nephew Adam Isban; along with many special cousins. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her brother, Eli Starkman and her infant son, Eric Goldwyn.
Jewish graveside services and interment will be conducted at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:30 AM. Rabbi Jonathan Katz will officiate.
