Richard Stanley Yankowski, Sr., 84, of Port Charlotte, Florida died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
Richard was born May 6, 1939, in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Stanley and Elizabeth Yankowski. Richard moved to Port Charlotte in 1967. He had a long and storied career over the years as a Comptroller of Port Charlotte Bank, Vice-President of Edison Bank, and President of Barnett Bank. He grew Executive Title Insurance with Bill Townsend into 13 offices from Naples to Bradenton. He created the Great Western Lodging company, Breckenridge, CO in 1997 and enjoyed retirement in Breckenridge for 10 years. He then moved to Santa Fe, NM for several years before returning to Port Charlotte in 2018. Richard had many interests over the years, including skiing, sculling, mountain biking, hiking, deep sea diving and playing drums in his own band, yet his favorite place was with his wife, family, and friends. Richard enjoyed telling many tales of his life, including when he was called to active duty for the U.S. Naval Air.
Richard is survived by his loving family, his wife of 60 years, Janeen C. Yankowski; a daughter, Kristin Yankowski; three sons, Richard S. Yankowski, Jr, Robert Yankowski, and Rhett Yankowski; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Richard was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus in Santa Fe and an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. He will be remembered during a funeral mass on Friday, June 23 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda, Florida 33950. Private interment by the family will be held later at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
