Robert A. Tabet, 92, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Peacefully on October 10, 2023, under the compassionate care of Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte. He was called by the Lord to be with his beloved wife, Kathryn, in Heaven.
Robert (Bob) was born April 1, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Marie Tabet. Together with his wife, Kathryn, of 57 years, raised 5 children on Long Island, New York. In 1996, they moved to Port Charlotte from Hauppauge, New York.
Bob served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1948 to 1952 as a Radioman 2nd Class, receiving an honorable discharge with medals for Expert Rifleman and Good Conduct. Bob also served 20 years in the New York Fire Department as a Motor Pump Operator with Engine Co. 47 and Engine CO. 270, retiring in 1975.
In retirement, Bob lived a very full and active life. Until just a week before entering hospice, he was still riding his bike daily and bowling every Wednesday night. Bob Volunteered for many years at Saint Joseph Hospital in Port Charlotte. He was Known for always going out of his way to help others, and always with a big smile. Very handy and independent, he enjoyed woodworking and making crafts with Kathryn and he loved showing his grandchildren how to make meat pies and tabouli. Bob’s passions include fishing, bowling, cooking, and smoking a good cigar.
Bob is survived by his children, Robert (Marcia) Tabet, Donna (Kevin) Burckley, Steven (Natalie) Tabet, Kevin (Anastasia) Tabet and Christopher (Erin) Tabet. Bob was blessed with his ten grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Alyssa, Sarah, Adam, Matthew, Steven, Ryan, Kayla, Christina and Mallory. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathyrn, his sister, Diane Tabet and his parents, George and Marie Tabet.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, November 17, 2023 at San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL 34287. A celebration of life will be held following the mass from 12:00PM-2:00PM at the Fellowship Hall at San Pedro Church. Bob will be interred at the Sarasota National Cemetery with Military Honors on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:30AM.
