Sydney Anthony Mason, 90, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully at his home in Port Charlotte surrounded by his family and friends.

Sydney was born April 21, 1929 in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica W.I. to David and Theresa Mason. He was the 4th of 9 siblings. Sydney emigrated to London, England in 1953 where he worked for London Transport for many years. He emigrated to New York, NY in 1978 where he worked as a mason tender. He met and married Mervis Lewinson on November 6, 1993 at the Tremont Baptist Church where Sydney was a Deacon and a member of the choir. Je was an ardent member of Ancient Order of Free Masons, a member of the Independent Order of Mechanics FSWH Inc. and a Forrester. While seeking warmer climate, they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 2004. They became members of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte until his demise.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mervis; his brother, Lucious Mason of Jamaica, W.I.; his sister, Lenora Bonnick of Jamaica, W.I. and a host of cousins and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 9:00AM-10:00AM with a Funeral service at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Port Charlotte Building Program GROW, 20035 Quesada Ave. Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
