Mary H. Roberson, 100, of Bradenton, Florida died peacefully at home Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Mary was born April 19, 1921 in Graham, Kentucky to the late James Clay Kennerly and Mary Louise (Bridges) Kennerly. She moved to Bradenton in 1934 with her parents who opened J.C. Kennerly Grocery at Manatee Avenue and 27th Street East. Mary was a graduate of Bradenton High School, Class of 1939 which is now Manatee High School. She helped her parents manage the family grocery until it was sold in 1948 and worked at Star Cleaners on 14th Street. In 1972 Mary joined the staff of Griffith-Cline Funeral Home where she worked as an attendant and secretary, retiring at the age of 96.
Living to almost 101 years of age, it is hard to imagine all the changes that Mary saw in her lifetime, however there were some things that never changed. Her love and faith in God, her conservative values and belief in hard work. She read her Bible every day. Mary was a former member of the Manatee United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church; and in June 0f 1989 became a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Mary always believed in service to others and the less fortunate. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 43 years and contributed to many charities for the needy. Mary loved her family and was proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Survived by her loving family, three daughters, Mary Anne Roberson of Las Vegas, NV, Suegene (Terry) West of Bradenton, FL and Debra (Spencer) Key of Olney, TX; a son, Kenneth L. (Jeff) Roberson of Punta Gorda, FL; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Connie) Roberson, James Clay (Toni) Roberson, Lori (Dave) Nowag, Scott (Debbie) Weisheim, Courtney (Jonathan) Bledsoe, Taylor (Katie) West, Hunter West, Colby West, Amanda (Scott) Stover, Trevor Key and Julius Key; 19 great grandchildren, several nephews and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loy F. Roberson who died in 1979, brother, Edwin Lloyd Kennerly, PFC US Army, who was killed in action in France during World War II; a sister, Dorothy Lassiter, and a grandson, Justin Key.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34205. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11:00 AM April 19, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church, 7215 1st Avenue W., Bradenton, FL 34209. Interment will follow at Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton.
Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. www.tidewellhospice.org or to the Faith United Methodist Church.

We had the good luck of having Mary as our neighbor next door on 10th Ave for over a decade. We admired her so much--she was such a hard worker (but never on Sunday!). She somehow found the time to maintain a beautiful yard with her signature impatiens (preferably pink). She so loved the Lord and her family. We never tired of her stories about her family, her travels and even special dogs she had in her life. After we moved away, it was such a treat to receive a Christmas card from her with her perfect penmanship and a thoughtful note. It was truly a life well lived and her memory will live on. Our condolences to the entire family.

Mary had been on a trip to visit family and came to Olney to stay with Debbie and Spencer for a few days. Spencer and Debbie were at work so a friend, D'Ann Wooldridge, and I took Mary on a drive around the country near Olney. We had a great visit with her. I remember a field of blue flowers in the country. We shared life with each other that day and learned a lot about each other. It is a great memory I have of her. All of us enjoyed the visit and I am so thankful I had that time with her. When Debbie talked about her Mom I could see in my memory a sweet lady who passed through my like one day in Olney, Texas. God blessed the three of us that day.
