Angelo Andrew Prokos, 73, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away peacefully at his home Friday, December 12, 2008.
He was born March 25, 1935 in Kandyla, Arcadia, Greece to the late Fotini and
Andreas Prokopiou. Angelo immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1951 and moved to Punta Gorda in March of 1977 with his family. In 1958 he and his brothers, Michael and Constantinos opened Prokos Bros. Grocery and in 1965 they opened the House of Venus Beauty Salon Beauty Salon in Chicago. He was the former owner and operator of Burger
Queen Restaurant which opened in 1977 in Fort Myers, the Rose City Cafeteria, which opened in 1979 in Punta Gorda, the Promenades Rib and Steak House, which opened in 1981, and Chubby’s Sport’s Bar and Grill, which opened in 1998 both in Port Charlotte. In 2004 he retired from the restaurant and bar business. He was member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Port Charlotte. Angelo was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
Survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diamanto (nee Kostrouros) Prokos of Punta Gorda; three sons, Andrew (wife-Sarah) Prokos of Punta Gorda, Frank (wife-Ourania) and Constantinos (wife-Aspasia) Prokos both of Chicago; two sisters, Constantina Kontos of Punta Gorda, Gianoula (Frank) Economos of Athens, Greece; two brothers, Michael Prokos of Chicago and Constantinos Prokos of Camden, NC; six grandchildren, Christina, Angelica, Nicholas, Amanda, Evan, and Tommy; and many nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held Monday, December 15, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11:00 AM, December 16, 2008 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Port Charlotte. Father George Pappas will officiate. Committal services and interment will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda.
