ANITA K. TENNANT, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Peace River Regional Medical Center, Port Charlotte.

Anita was born in Akron, Ohio to Richard and Harriet Coleman on March 21, 1938. She grew up in Akron and graduated from Kenmore High School and attended Ohio University and the University of Akron. Anita taught kindergarten and the first grade in the Akron area for ten years prior to moving to Port Charlotte with her family in 1971. She was a substitute school teacher before taking the position of Administrator of the Small World Christian Learning Center at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte where she served for twenty years. Later she worked as a paraprofessional at Kingsway Elementary School for eight years and retired in 2006. Anita was a lifetime member of Laureate Delta Upsilon of Beta Sigma Phi and loved her sorority sisters.

Anita is survived by her loving family, her husband of 51 years, Richard S. (Dick) Tennant of Port Charlotte, two daughters, Shawn (Gerald) McCann of Port Charlotte and Shelly (Dallas) Shepard of Lake Suzy, FL; a sister, Rita (Roger) Price of Barberton, OH; a brother, Gary (Judy) Coleman of Shelby, OH; 6 grandchildren, Billy (Kara) Tuck, III, Justin(Megan) Tuck, Robby (Jeanette) Tuck, Michael McCann, Darcy Shepard, and Austin Shepard; and 2 great grandchildren, Braelyn Tuck and Ryder Tuck; and numerous, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard.

Dear Famaily, We know she is at peace and that I am thankful for, along with the privelage of being her niece. What a ray of sunshine she always was, always smiling! I will miss her dearly but will cherish all the memories of her & the many visits we had! Her work here on earth is done and now is the time for you to carry on her legacy. Dear Tennant Family and Friends: I have known Anita for a long time. What a wonderful person! A wonderful Wife and Mom! A Wonderful Grandma and Great Grandma! A great friend! I just loved her so much. She was always happy to see you. She was our organizer! LOL I have to laugh at that because she was always so funny organizing everything and we just listened to what she told us to do. She never missed a beat thats for sure. She was a vibrant lady and so loved for the kind, generous and thoughtful and loving person she was. I will so miss her, miss her smile, miss her friendship. God doesn't tell us how long we will stay here on Earth, he only promises everlasting life and peace with him. I truely believe that Anita resides in his Kingdom and there she has met up with my Dad (Jerry McCann)and has organized everything for us so when we get there, there will be no waiting -- her and Jerry will be our greeters and we will once again be reunited and our circle will be complete. I loved Anita!! She was my first friend in high school. She was so popular. Homecoming Queen, Cheerleader and just all around wonderful person. We always visited her and Dick when we were in Florida and always enjoyed our visits with them. Rest in peace my dear, dear, friend. Love, Norma

Mrs. Tennant was just the most special woman. She always remembered me and my son's..by name, even if i had not seen her in years. She always had a smile on her face. I first met her at Small World Nursery School and she was such a wonderful director and the kids all loved her. I will remember her best though with the love and pride she showed when she talked about her girls and grandchildren. Evie Lucas.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. Charlotte County has loss one of it's finest citizens. Mrs. Tennant was so wonderful with the children at Small World. She remembered each one by name and asked about them even as they graduated from high school. I will always remember her positive way of dealing with whatever life hands to you. I cannot believe we have lost Anita. She was one of my closest friends in high school, college, and later life. We shared many memorable experiences. She was so talented and beautiful. She was our homecoming queen, varsity cheerleader, and all round school supporter. Her passing is a real tragedy. I will miss her. There are no words to console Dick, Shawn, and Shelly. Treasure the memories. She has found rest.

We were so sorry to hear of Anita's passing. She was a gracious and beautiful person who will be missed by all who loved her (and there are many). Shelly, We were very sorry to hear about your mom. Our prayers are with you. She was one of the nicest ladies and we enjoyed the times together chatting with her at your house when we were in Pt.
